The Israeli military has given more details about its ground operations around the Jabalia refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip, which have now entered their second week.
The Israeli army said it carried out dozens of strikes in the area to assist forces fighting “armed terrorist cells” on the ground.
The army said, “Soldiers found large quantities of weapons, including explosives, anti-tank missiles, AK-47 rifles, drones, and grenades.”
Israel says that the Israeli army has returned to parts of northern and central Gaza to confront Hamas’s efforts to re-establish its presence in these areas.
Reports from the ground: Displaced Palestinians in Jabalia tell CNN that heavy Israeli bombing has caused “death and terror” in the camp. About 300 homes were completely destroyed within seven days, according to Mahmoud Basal, spokesman for emergency services in the Gaza Civil Defense.
He told CNN that Basal’s teams had recovered at least 150 bodies and rescued hundreds of wounded in the refugee camp as of Saturday.
South Gaza: The Israeli army said that the Israeli Air Force killed a senior Hamas activist in Rafah. The Israeli army claims that it was actively involved in the smuggling of weapons and money into the Gaza Strip.
Overall, the IDF said the air force struck dozens of targets, including what it claimed were “two tactical-level Hamas leaders who were preparing to attack IDF forces in the Rafah area.”
