Press reports have linked Dutch international Virgil van Dijk to a move to the Saudi league this summer, especially since negotiations to renew his contract with Liverpool – which expires at the end of next season – have not seen any new developments so far.
In this regard, the British website “TEAMtalk” said today, Saturday, that Van Dijk gave the green light to the Saudi negotiator to start talking to Liverpool about the deal.
Indeed, the Saudi Public Investment Fund contacted the English club, which requested around 55 million euros to complete the deal, a very high figure for the fund, which said it wanted a few days to evaluate its possible next steps regarding the player.
The website added that Liverpool’s request puts the negotiations at risk, as Saudi Arabia will withdraw from the deal if the price is not reduced.
Last season, Van Dijk played 51 matches with the Reds, in all competitions, scoring 4 goals and making 2 assists.
