The Ministry of Finance and Economy of the Kurdistan Regional Government confirmed, on Tuesday, that the federal government’s measures caused the region’s employees to be deprived of their salaries for the month of February.
The Ministry stated in a statement received by Al-Rasheed that it “requested in its letter No. (4/7/2147) dated (3/5/2024) from the Ministry of Finance in the Federal Government to fully fund the salaries of Kurdistan employees without discrimination for the month of February, amounting to (949,813,146,170) dinars.” However, the Ministry of Finance in the federal government funded only 560 billion and 217 million dinars, which is equivalent to only (59%) of the total salaries of the region’s employees, depriving (41%) of the employees of their salaries, and even the amount that was decided to finance did not reach the Ministry of Finance in the Kurdistan Region. “.
She added, “This measure by the Ministry of Finance in the federal government causes a deficit in disbursing February salaries of about (390) billion dinars, creating major financial problems and depriving a large portion of employees of their salaries.”
The ministry explained, “Apart from the small amount of money that was sent for the month of February, no funding will be provided to the Kurdistan Regional Government for the salaries of March 2024, according to the book issued by the Ministry of Finance in the federal government if the salaries of employees are not localized, and this comes at a time when The regional government began localizing employees’ salaries some time ago through the (My Account) project under the supervision of the Central Bank, and negotiations are continuing,” noting that “none of these measures taken by the Federal Ministry of Finance should deprive Kurdistan Region employees of their salaries and be treated like the rest.” employees across Iraq.
