Kesha’s résumé just got even more impressive.
During a Tuesday appearance on the Jennifer Hudson Show, the Dreamgirls star started the segment off by noting how “nice” it was to meet the “Die Young” singer after hearing “that we almost crossed paths one time.”
“I was an extra on Dreamgirls,” Kesha admitted, which stunned Hudson. “Serious, Bible. For like $120, for 16 hours, I sat there with my hair teased to the Gods.”
The two-time Grammy Award nominee admitted that she “hated” the experience and recalled filming a scene in Downtown Los Angeles for the 2006 Oscar-winning film.
“No offense, I hated it,” she said. “Y’all were amazing. [I was] just an extra in a scene, it was a big auditorium [in] Downtown, L.A.,” she added, which Hudson confirmed was the shooting location for the beloved movie.
“You’re gonna make me go rewind it back and try to spot you in the film, this is amazing,” Hudson said. “I don’t remember the name of the theater, but we shot everything in Downtown L.A., so you were definitely there.”
Dreamgirls is an adaptation of the 1981 Tony-winning Broadway musical centered around the musical trio the Dreamettes, a group that The Supremes somewhat inspired. The film, directed by Bill Condon, starred Beyoncé, Anika Noni Rose and Hudson as the Dreamettes. This role notably nabbed Hudson the title of best supporting actress at the 2007 Academy Awards.
Aside from her Oscar win, Dreamgirls also took home the title for best sound mixing, with the film’s success leading to a revival of the musical.
