Judge Hanoun said in a press conference attended by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), “The latest recoveries of the accused. We have the first accused, Halia, in the process of being recovered from the Syrian Arab Republic. He is the accused, Issam Muwaffaq Jassim, on charges of stealing an amount of 760 million Iraqi dinars from Al-Rashid Bank, Maysan University branch, and he is convicted. In absentia, he will be imprisoned for 10 years.”
He added, “The second accused is the convict Jinan Jawad Abdul Ali Al-Qaisi. She was arrested in Belarus and is currently in the process of recovery, as she owes 6 billion and 500 million Iraqi dinars. She was working in the Ministry of Health in 2008 and embezzled the money under fictitious names and contracts. She was sentenced to imprisonment.” 7 years in absentia.
He pointed out that “the third accused, Saif Ahmed Abdel Khalifa, was arrested in Jordan and sentenced in Iraq to 7 years in prison in absentia,” stressing that “these defendants will soon be brought to Iraq after completing their investigation papers.”
Regarding the issue of tax deposits, Hanoun confirmed that “this crime involves 30 defendants, including the arrested, the sponsored, and the fugitive,” pointing out that “the Integrity Commission has completed the file and is currently with the competent investigation court and in its final stages until it goes to the trial court to try the accused according to the law, no matter how long it takes, but they will be tried.” “.
