The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Monday that a group of ships of the Russian Pacific Fleet, led by the missile-carrying cruiser “Varyag”, arrived at the Iranian port of Chabahar to participate in the joint naval exercises “Maritime Security Belt-2024.”
The ministry revealed in a statement, “Russian ships will participate in the joint naval exercises, the Maritime Security Belt-2024.”
She explained that the exercises will also include ships, boats, and naval aviation of the Iranian and Chinese navies, and representatives of the naval forces of Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Oman, India, and South Africa will serve as observers.
She added that the practical part of the exercises will take place in the waters of the Gulf of Oman in the Arabian Sea, noting that the main purpose of the maneuvers is to practice ensuring the security of maritime economic activity.
The ministry pointed out that “in addition to the cruiser “Varyag,” the large anti-submarine ship “Marshal Shaposhnikov” will participate in the exercises, as well as two warships and a supply ship belonging to the Chinese Navy, and more than ten ships, boats, support ships and three helicopters belonging to the Iranian Navy.
