Jennifer Coolidge (The White Lotus) and singer and actress Nicole Scherzinger have joined the cast of Rebel Wilson’s Girl Group, a comedy now in production that Wilson is writing, directing, producing, and starring in for Live Nation Studios and Future Artists Entertainment.
Scherzinger, fresh off her run on the West End and Broadway of Sunset Boulevard, and two-time Emmy winner Coolidge will play roles that weren’t immediately detailed.
In the movie, Wilson plays a pop diva who’s been kicked out of her own girl group’s reunion tour and slapped with a sentence of court-ordered community service. She seizes this to stage a comeback by coaching a group of misfit teen girls for a major record label audition.
The ensemble cast of Girl Group also includes Randall Park (WandaVision, Fresh off the Boat), Sheridan Smith (Mrs Biggs, Cilla), Jamie Lee O’Donnell (Derry Girls, Leonard & Hungry Paul), comedian Guz Khan (Man Like Mobeen, The Gentleman), Jolene Blalock (Star Trek: Enterprise), as well as Pussycat Doll Ashley Roberts, Spice Girl Melanie Chisholm, and All Saints’ Shaznay Lewis who will play the girlband Girlfriends alongside Wilson’s character. Loren Gray will also star.
The film is being produced by Wilson under her Camp Sugar banner, alongside Matt Williams of Future Artists Entertainment, and executive produced by Live Nation Studios. Chris Scott (Wicked) is the choreographer.
Live events giant Live Nation Entertainment’s Live Nation Studios unit was created to help artists tell their stories in films and TV series. It has been behind the likes of The French Montana Story: For Khadija, The Weeknd’s Hurry Up Tomorrow, and such documentaries as Billy Idol Should Be Dead. Williams’ Future Artists Entertainment, founded in 2019, has been behind such releases as Bank of Dave 2, featuring Rory Kinnear, as well as Russell Crowe’s Pokerface, featuring Liam Hemsworth, and Robin and the Hoods, starring Naomie Harris and Gwendoline Christie.
