The Kurdistan Democratic Party confirmed on Thursday that the decisions of the Federal Court contradict the spirit of the constitution.
The party stated in a statement received by Al-Rasheed, “The party’s political bureau held a meeting today, Thursday, headed by Masoud Barzani, and the discussion of the Federal Court’s decisions issued yesterday, Wednesday, February 21, was one of the topics of the meeting.”
The statement added, “These decisions contradict the spirit of the constitution, the constitutional rights of the Kurdistan region, and the principles of federalism, and also contradict the principle of separation of powers stipulated in the Iraqi constitution.”
The statement continued, “In this regard, the political office of our party emphasizes the following points:
• Defending and supporting the rights of components to participate and partner in constitutional institutions.
• Our party supports the Kurdistan Regional Government to continue its negotiations with the Iraqi federal government regarding the region’s financial dues within the framework of the constitution.
• The decision regarding Election Law No. (1) of 1992 and changing some of its provisions violates the constitution and the nature of the separation of powers.”
