Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said during a meeting of the UN Security Council that Israel’s neighbors, including Lebanon, are at risk of being drawn into a large-scale confrontation with it.
Lavrov, who chairs the UN Security Council session on the Middle East, explained: “In addition to the military operation in the occupied Palestinian territories, its other neighbors are also at risk of being drawn into a large-scale confrontation with Israel.”
He particularly stressed the daily increase in tension on the Blue Line separating Lebanon and Israel.
Lavrov stressed the need for a frank dialogue to stop the bloodshed in the region and reach a long-term settlement.
The border between Lebanon and Israel is still witnessing ongoing tension and exchange of shelling, amid international and UN efforts to contain the conflict for fear of its expansion into a comprehensive war.
