The media office of the National Security Advisor said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “Al-Araji received in his office the Turkish ambassador to Baghdad, Ali Reza Gonani,” noting that “Al-Araji discussed with the Turkish ambassador the strengthening of relations between the two countries and the two neighboring peoples and the continuation of constructive cooperation.” In files and issues of common interest.
He added, “The meeting discussed the outcomes of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s recent visit to Baghdad and the importance of following up on the memorandums of understanding that were signed during the visit.”
Al-Araji confirmed to the Turkish ambassador, according to the statement, that “Iraq’s firm position is not to allow Iraqi territory to be a launching pad for terrorist and banned groups that pose a threat to the security of the two countries and the region.”
