Baghdad/ Nina The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced, today, Monday, the opening of the Iraqi embassy in Libya, noting that Ahmed Al-Sahhaf was named charge d’affaires of the embassy.
Al-Sahhaf said in a statement, “In the context of activating the terms of the government program, and under the guidance of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein on the necessity of providing services to the Iraqi community residing in the State of Libya, and the embassy’s role in overcoming all obstacles they face, the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq was opened today. Tripoli, and Ahmed Al-Sahhaf was named head of the Iraqi mission.”
He stressed, “We will work to develop our bilateral relations and coordinate the exchange of high-level visits between Baghdad and Tripoli in the coming period,” pointing to “Iraq’s support for international efforts to restore security and stability in Libya, and adopt the political option that meets the aspirations of the Libyan people.”
He stated that the Iraqi embassy in Libya will play its role in activating political and diplomatic work in a way that serves the interests of the two brotherly countries, in addition to providing services and consular work to the Iraqi community residing in Libya.
It is worth noting that the Iraqi embassy will reopen after a decade, as a result of the developments witnessed by the sister country of Libya./End 8
