Today, Wednesday, Defense Minister Thabet Muhammad Al-Abbasi and French Armed Forces Minister Sebastien Lecornu discussed areas of cooperation in training, armament, and bilateral relations between the two countries.

A statement from the ministry, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), said: “The Minister of Defense, Thabet Muhammad Al-Abbasi, arrived today in the Republic of France, and was received by the French Minister of the Armed Forces, Sebastien Lecornu.”
The statement added, “Immediately upon his arrival, the Minister of Defense held an extensive meeting with the French Minister of the Armed Forces, during which they discussed bilateral relations between the two countries, as France stressed the priority in supporting the security and stability of Iraq and developing its armed forces, and expressed its readiness to cooperate in supporting Iraq after the end of the coalition mission and the transition to relations.” Bilateral agreement under a memorandum of cooperation between Iraq and France.
The statement continued, “Areas of cooperation in training and armament were also discussed, and an emphasis was placed on supporting Iraq’s sovereignty by securing its airspace with the latest technology and equipment.”
The statement concluded, “The minister’s visit to the Republic of France will last several days, during which several meetings will be held between the Iraqi and French sides to support the Iraqi armed forces.”
