British Foreign Secretary David Cameron announced on Thursday that he had made it clear to his Iranian counterpart, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, that Tehran should not drag the Middle East into a broader conflict.
Cameron said in a blog post on the “X” platform: “I made clear to Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian that Iran should not drag the Middle East into a broader conflict,” according to Reuters.
He added: “I am deeply concerned about the possibility that a miscalculation could lead to more violence. Iran should instead work to de-escalate and prevent further attacks.”
For his part, Abdullahian, in a call with Cameron, criticized what he described as “British failure” to condemn the Damascus strike.
He said that Tehran “never sought to raise tension in the region,” adding that the Israeli attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus “and the silence of America and Britain means encouraging (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu to continue igniting and developing war in the region,” according to what he said. He was quoted by Tasnim Agency.
