Baghdad/Nina/ The Integrity Commission announced the discovery of a waste of public money in the Basra Governorate Office, and the arrest of two accused of embezzlement in the port of Umm Qasr.
The authority stated in a statement: “The Basra Investigation Directorate’s work team, which moved to the governorate’s office, revealed irregularities in the referral of the tender for the project to rehabilitate and light the main streets in the governorate and Airport Road and connect them to a complete system at a cost of (11) billion dinars, indicating that bids less than The offer submitted by the company to which the project was assigned constituted a waste of public money, in addition to the fact that the duration of the project in the advertisement was (90) days, while in the contract it was (300) days.”
She added: “The team was able to arrest the director of the maritime agencies office in Umm Qasr Port/Raseef 27 and the cashier in the office,” noting that sums of money were seized in the possession of the first accused in his office, while the second accused was arrested. Due to a shortage of funds owed in the office’s treasury, an amount received by the cashier without official receipts was seized during the operation, and (16) extradition orders whose receipts were not deducted,” indicating that the competent investigating judge decided to arrest the accused.
She pointed out violations in the Shuaiba Water Maintenance and Rehabilitation Project, as the implementation of the work by the company to which the project was assigned was in violation of the specifications. Which led to damage to the pumps, and exaggeration and falsification were observed in the process of purchasing materials for the benefit of the Basra Water Directorate, indicating that purchase receipts from fake stores and offices were seized at exaggerated prices and very large sums of money.
She continued that the Basra Investigation Directorate team observed violations in the Real Estate Registration Directorate in the process of transferring ownership of a property belonging to the Ministry of Finance, noting that the process of transferring ownership of the property located in the “Al-Kubasi Al-Kabeer” district was carried out in accordance with Resolution (80)./End 7
