Team India won the toss and batting competition
Losing in India is never nice, but this might not be the worst game. There may be some hiccups on Jimmy Anderson’s pitch this morning, and the consensus among those on hand is that the pitch – which is looking smoother – won’t completely fall apart. Still, you’d rather bat first.
“We’ll bat first, that’s what you do in India when you win the toss,” Ben Stokes said. “The series is very balanced and that’s a fair reflection. We’re refreshed after the break and looking forward to this week’s battle.”
Team News: Sarfaraz and Jurel make Test debuts
India also have two debutants in this match: 26-year-old Sarfaraz Khan, who has a class-leading average – get ready for the exclamation point – of 69.85, and wicketkeeper Dhruv Yurell (Dhruv Jurel). They replaced Shreyas Iyer and KS Bharat, who performed well in the first two Tests but managed only 92 runs in four innings. We are still waiting to see who Ravindra Jadeja will replace.
