The Counter-Terrorism Service announced, on Monday, joint operations with the Kurdistan Region that resulted in the arrest of 11 terrorists at various leadership levels during the first half of this year.
The spokesman for the Counter-Terrorism Service, Sabah Al-Numan, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “During the first half of this year, the number of terrorists who were arrested in coordination with the region reached 11 terrorists at different leadership levels, and they were arrested in accordance with Article 4 of Terrorism.”
He explained that “the coordination between the Counter-Terrorism Service and the intelligence services in the Kurdistan Region is ongoing and proceeding at an increasing pace, which has resulted in achieving security in the area separating the borders of the region and the center.”
He pointed out that “the past period witnessed joint operations between the apparatus and the region in the area separating the borders of the center and the region, where a group of hideouts were found and destroyed with the support of the Iraqi Air Force.”
He added that “the high coordination and joint work with the region directly led to cutting off the presence and freedom of movement of terrorist gangs,” stressing that “the apparatus’ operations are continuing in areas with rugged and difficult terrain that the gangs use as a hideout and to carry out terrorist acts.”
He added, “The accurate intelligence information and continuous preemptive operations by the Counter-Terrorism Service led to securing the areas and eliminating any attempt by ISIS terrorist gangs to threaten the security of the region.”
