‘I’m spending my savings just to survive’: Iran’s economic crisis fuels new protests

Despite severe security risks and an ongoing war, retirees, nurses, workers, teachers and students have held sit-ins and protests across Iran since this summer, most often over economic hardship. With prices going up every few hours, salaries and pensions going unpaid for months, and unemployment increasing, our Observers say life is becoming “impossible”.
