
Ian Lavender was a British actor best known for his role as Private Pike in the classic British sitcom “Dad’s Army.” Born on February 16, 1946, Lavender has had a successful career in television, film, and stage. “Dad’s Army” was a popular sitcom that aired from 1968 to 1977, depicting the comedic misadventures of a group of amateur soldiers in the Home Guard during World War II. Lavender’s character, Private Pike, was the youngest member of the group and often portrayed as a naive and inexperienced individual. He also made several appearances in EastEnders playing the role of Derek Harkinson, a gay friend of Pauline Fowler. Lavender had previously suffered ill health after battling a tumour and a heart attack while reading an EastEnders script. His death was announced on Monday, February 5.
