Nasser Al-Khelaifi, president of Paris Saint-Germain, commented on the recent news about the approaching departure of team star Kylian Mbappe at the end of the current 2023-2024 season.
Paris Saint-Germain reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League by defeating host Real Sociedad 2-1 on Tuesday, in the second leg of the 16th round of the Champions League.
Many press reports have circulated recently, confirming that Mbappe informed the French club’s management of his final decision to leave Saint-Germain at the end of the current season on a free basis following the end of his contract.
Nasser Al-Khelaifi said in statements to the French channel Canal+ Foot after today’s match: “Enrique? The coach is the one who decides and we are behind him. Every technical and tactical choice is up to him.”
He added: “Mbappe? He is one of the best players in the world, but the whole team played very well today. He scored two goals and for me he is the best.”
Al-Khelaifi concluded his speech by saying: “I cannot confirm Kylian Mbappe’s departure. The club is always the one who communicates everything that concerns us. He is under contract here, but we are building something for the future.”
Press reports did not reveal Mbappe’s next destination after leaving Paris Saint-Germain, but of course everyone confirmed that the closest thing with a very strong force is his joining Real Madrid.
Paris Saint-Germain will face its rival, Reims, next Sunday, March 10, in the twenty-fifth round of the French Football League competition.
