Hamas praised the Lebanese Hezbollah’s response by launching a barrage of rockets towards Israel, in its first comment on the recent events between the two sides.
Hamas considered in a statement today, Sunday, that Hezbollah’s response confuses Israel’s attempts to impose new equations, and that the party’s response confirms the failure of Israel’s plan to monopolize the Gaza Strip.
She added that Hezbollah’s response increases the number of those fleeing the Galilee instead of returning them, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claims.
Hezbollah fired more than 100 rockets early Sunday across a wider and deeper area of northern Israel, some of which landed near the city of Haifa, as the two sides appeared to be heading toward all-out war after months of escalating tensions.
Rocket fire throughout the night sent thousands fleeing to shelters, and the Israeli military said the rockets were fired “towards civilian areas,” signalling a possible escalation after previous attacks mainly targeted military targets.
