Guillermo del Toro will jet into Cannes to attend the 20th anniversary screening of Pan’s Labyrinth, which has been announced as part of this year’s Cannes Classics line-up.
A 4K restored print of del Toro’s fantasy fable set during the Franco regime in 1940s Spain, regarded by many as the Mexican filmmaker’s masterpiece, will be presented in a pre-opening screening on May 12.
The film remains part of Cannes folklore for the record 22-minute standing ovation and went on to garner Oscars for cinematography, art direction, and make-up. Cineverse holds North American rights.
The Cannes Classics line-up announced on Tuesday (May 5) presents 22 features, six documentaries, three shorts, and two contemporary works – Bérenger Thouin’s hybrid adventure The Golden Age (L’Age D’Or) that Films Boutique sells; and Jean-Gabriel Périot’s documentary A Life, A Manifesto (Une Vie Manifeste) about the film critic, aspiring director, and activist Michèle Firk.
Among the features are restored 4K prints of Chen Kaige’s Farewell My Concubine; Rob Cohen’s 2001 franchise starter The Fast And The Furious with Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster and producer Neil H. Moritz expected to attend (May 13); historical drama Ken Russell’s The Devils with the filmmaker’s biographer Mark Kermode and his wife and academic Elisabeth Russell in attendance; Akira Kurosawa’s martial arts film Sanshiro Sugata; and Roger Corman’s 1958 noir Machine Gun Kelly with the late Corman’s wife Julie Corman expected to attend.
Documentary selections include Mike Mendez’s new work Dernsie: The Amazing Life Of Bruce Dern in which the director spoke to Alexander Payne, Laura Dern, Quentin Tarantino and others about the veteran actor’s life and career and drew from more than 50 hours or recorded conversations and previously unseen photographs and video letters. Bruce Dern, Laura Dern, and Mendez will attend the screening.
The 2026 Cannes Classics is dedicated to the memory of production designer Dean Tavoularis. The full line-up appears below.
