Willy Sagnol says it may be time to abandon VAR until it can be used properly after Spain equalized, arguing Spain should have been ruled out for offside in their bid to knock Georgia out of Euro 2024 And was excluded.
Georgia, ranked 74th in the world and playing their first major tournament, took the lead after 18 minutes but Rodri equalized six minutes before half-time and three second-half goals gave Spain a 4-1 win in Cologne. They advanced to the quarterfinals.
Rodri admitted things could have been different had Spain still trailed at half-time, with Sagnol insisting they should have done so as Alvaro Morata stood when the Manchester City midfielder scored Offside in front of goalkeeper Georgi Mamardashvili.
The Georgian coach likened the match to the Netherlands’ goal against France that was disallowed for offside after Denzel Dumfries was deemed to have interfered, and questioned why the same conclusion was not reached here. He also lamented the loss of the impressive Otar Kiteshvili, who went down injured while scoring.
“It’s difficult to talk about the offside position, but if you want my opinion, it was a clear offside,” Sagnol said. “If Dumfries was offside against France, he was offside 10 times today.
“VAR is great, but we may not know how to use it. For example, the decisions are always made by the same people; they sit there and they have 10 screens and they have to analyze everything, but from one game to the next Game by game, they don’t give the same decision. That’s why the players don’t understand it anymore, the staff don’t understand it anymore, the coaches don’t understand it anymore, but before we know how to use it properly, maybe we have to wait. We use it again.
“When we scored we felt we had a chance because we felt we had a chance before [the game],” Sagnol said. “If we were still 1-0 up at half-time, we might have been more energetic in the second half. Then one of our very important players got injured. We lost a lot in those 20 seconds. Looking at the bigger picture, Spain Deserve to win, there’s no discussion about it.
“We’re very happy and very proud of what we’ve done over the past few days, over the past few weeks. Sometimes you have to step back and look at what you’ve done. We can sit quietly with you all and feel a sense of appreciation for the past year. Very happy because the team and the team are developing very well and I’m very proud of it,” he added.

I’m not saying we’re disappointed, I’m a little bit sad that we lost, but on some days we’ll definitely Really aware of what we have done, I think the happiness will come back soon for the fans to be able to come here and see the national team; everything is a great experience and everyone will only think about one thing tomorrow morning, That’s coming back.
