Baghdad/Nina/ The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, confirmed today, Tuesday, that “the residents of the Gaza Strip are facing destruction on an unprecedented scale, and they are all hungry.”
Guterres said in a press statement, “More than half a million people in Gaza are facing ‘dangerous hunger’ and humanitarian aid must reach the residents of the Strip without obstacles, and the residents there are facing increasing possibilities of contracting diseases and epidemics.”
He added, “Humanitarian organizations are struggling to deliver aid to the Gaza Strip,” stressing that “there is no justification for collective punishment of the Palestinian people.”
Guterres pointed out that “the remnants of war in the Gaza Strip pose a danger to relief workers,” adding: “We face difficult inspections and unjustified refusals to enter essential materials into the Gaza Strip.”
He pointed out that “dozens of humanitarian workers are waiting for the Israeli government’s approval to grant them entry visas,” reiterating the call for “an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.”/End 8
