Baghdad – WAA
The Iraqi Football Association issued a clarification regarding Al-Zawraa not playing the play-off match against Dohuk.
The Federation stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that “some sports websites published a false news with all its details, far from the truth as usual, stating that the management of Al-Zawraa Club granted its football team players a vacation, after it agreed with the Football Association not to play the play-off match against the Dohuk team.”
He added, “To clarify the truth to our fans, we clarify the following: The Football Association received a request from Al-Zawraa management and some clubs included in the play-off, in which they demanded the cancellation of the approved mechanism for playing play-off matches, and holding a draw between the included teams instead to name Iraq’s representatives to participate in external tournaments.”
He continued: “The answer was to reject the request and the submitted proposal, because it is in violation of the competition regulations that were approved, which constitutes a clear violation of the regulations. We informed the management of Al-Zawraa and other clubs of the necessity of playing the matches and preparing their teams for these matches in order to name Iraq’s representatives in the external tournaments for Iraq,” noting that “attempts to mislead public opinion with lies whose goals are known have become exposed to everyone, and will have no effect at all.”
The statement pointed out that “the union reserves the right to take whatever measures it deems appropriate to avert the abuse that has been inflicted on it, the aims of which are clear to all.”
