Phil Foden scored three wonderful goals to lead Manchester City to a 3-1 victory over host Brentford in the English Premier League on Monday, as the defending champions reduced the gap with leaders Liverpool to only two points, with a match in hand for City remaining.

Despite almost constant pressure from City, Brentford took the lead with Neal Maupay’s goal in the 21st minute, but Foden equalized just before the end of the first half, then added two more wonderful goals, giving the visiting team control of the ball in another match in which they dominated and dominated.
Liverpool, which lost to Arsenal on Sunday, leads the standings with 51 points from 23 matches, but City raised its score to 49 points from 22 matches, compared to 49 points for Arsenal from 23 matches.
Brentford won back and forth over City last season, beating them 1-0 in London in the last match in May after the title had already been decided, after a 2-1 victory at the Etihad Stadium in November with two goals by Ivan Toney.
