Residents of a Saudi province in the south of the country received financial compensation amounting to 2,000 riyals, equivalent to 533 dollars, due to the power outage in their homes during periods between Friday and Saturday.
Saudi media reported on Monday that “those affected by the power outage on Friday and Saturday in the southern province of Sharurah received text messages from the Saudi Electricity Company on Sunday apologizing and informing them of financial compensation of up to 2,000 riyals ($533.25) added to their account balance with the company.”
Electricity was cut off to all consumers in the province on Friday and the outage extended until late the next day, while the Saudi Electricity Regulatory Authority apologized to consumers for the service outage in a statement on Sunday.
The authority said in a statement that its board of directors directed “immediate communication with all consumers in Sharurah to apologize to them and inform them of the amount of compensation, with the allocation of telephone lines to receive any inquiries or complaints related to the incident.”
The Board of Directors of the Saudi Electricity Company also promised in a statement to apologize to all consumers for the delay in restoring electricity service, and decided to begin an urgent investigation under the supervision of the Electricity Regulatory Authority to determine the reasons for the outage and determine any shortcomings or negligence that led to the delay in restoring service.
Okaz newspaper published a text message sent to one of the subscribers apologizing to him for the power outage and informing him that an amount of two thousand riyals would be added to his account.
It is noteworthy that temperatures in Saudi Arabia are high during the summer, as residents increasingly rely on electricity and use air conditioners in their homes.
