Europe’s top court ruled on Friday morning in the case of Lassana Diarra that FIFA’s rules on player transfers violated EU law. The European Court of Justice referred to the principle of free movement of persons within the Union. World football’s governing body may now have to adjust the rules for professional football player contracts, at least in Europe.
