Baghdad – WAA
The head of the Iraqi Football Association, Adnan Darjal, announced that the association received a new response from the Dutch club Utrecht regarding the player Zidane Iqbal joining the Olympic team in the Paris Olympics.
Darjal said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “I regret to inform you that the Dutch club has renewed its refusal to release the player, citing the reason as the club’s preparation period for the new season.”
He added, “Despite our contact with FIFA and our success in obtaining special approval to extend the time period allowed for registering players by 24 hours, the Dutch club’s response was to reject our third letter that we sent to the club, which is the second letter that we sent in less than 12 hours,” indicating that “his confidence is high in all the players available to the team coach, wishing success to our player Zidane Iqbal who will definitely be present in the upcoming events.”
The Federation President concluded his speech by saying, “The system of football activity in the Olympics, which takes place outside of FIFA days and during the clubs’ preparation period for local competitions, is the main reason that gives the clubs the right not to allow their players to be released, wishing at the same time the Dutch club success with our unique player Zidane Iqbal.”
It is noteworthy that our national team will participate in the Paris Olympics in the group that includes, in addition to it, the national teams of Argentina, Ukraine and Morocco.
