It was posted in response to a Fire TV Stick user asking for best practice advice.
“Just got a stick and would like to ensure that I handle it properly.
“Any best practices, tips, and tricks to ensure that the stick continues to behave the way it should be?
“Like should I switch it off via the remote before switching off the main plug, etc.,” the Reddit user asked.
The most popular response on the thread described how the new Amazon Fire TV Stick owner should plug the device into the TV.
“Don’t plug the usb power to the tv. Clean the cache regularly, if you Sideload apps delete the apk to save memory,” one Reddit user advised.
This was met with some confusion in the comments with one person asking, “What’s wrong with plugging it to the tv?”
Another Reddit user said, “USB power rating provided by TV is often lower than what the Firestick requires, which leads to performance issues.”

The tidbit was praised on the Reddit thread.
It is true that you don’t have to plug your Fire Stick directly into the TV.
If you’re struggling with your connection issues or the Fire Stick getting too hot, you might want to consider another method.
You can use the HDMI extender that comes as an in-box accessory with your Fire TV Stick purchase.
The 3-inch extender is designed to make it easier for you to plug and unplug the USB-shaped device into the TV.
Amazon advises, “Use the HDMI extender cable if it’s difficult to plug the Stick into the TV’s HDMI port.”
Instead of plugging your Fire Stick directly into the TV, plug it into the extender first and then attach the extender to the USB port.
