Baghdad / Nina The Parliamentary Foreign Relations, Labor and Social Affairs Committees held a joint meeting with the Bangladeshi Ambassador, Muhammad Fadlul Bari, and the Philippine Ambassador, Curly Bacuna.
The head of the Foreign Relations Committee, Representative Dylan Ghafour, said, “The meeting discussed strengthening bilateral relations and the issue of foreign workers in Iraq, and the possibility of organizing their work inside Iraq, especially illegal workers, stressing the provision of support and full readiness for joint work in order to reach actual solutions to this problem.”
In turn, Vice Chairman of the Labor and Social Affairs Committee, Hussein Arab, confirmed that there are large numbers of foreign workers without official papers, and that the law enacted by the Iraqi Council of Representatives 4 months ago allows for amending legal documents for foreign workers, calling on the ambassadors of Bangladesh and the Philippines to urge their nationals to organize their work inside Iraq. Otherwise, there will be financial and penal penalties, noting that “this law will be ratified by the State Council within 90 days.”
For his part, the Bangladeshi ambassador requested that the restriction imposed on Bangladeshi citizens in general from entering Iraq be lifted.
The two ambassadors also affirmed their countries’ readiness to open horizons of cooperation and work to organize labor in Iraq in accordance with the law./End 5
