Dissatisfaction with air travel resurfaced Tuesday after maggots rained down on passengers on a Delta flight from Amsterdam to Detroit, Michigan.
A passenger reportedly brought the rotten fish onto the plane in a carry-on bag and placed it in the overhead bin before the maggots broke free and landed on passengers seated below, The Independent reports On the body.
Philip Schotte, a Dutchman who lives in Iowa, told local news channel Fox 2 that he saw at least a dozen maggots land on a woman during the flight.
“I don’t really know what was going on in my head. I was trying to deal with it – disgust is certainly one thing,” Short told the outlet. “We had to wait there for help to actually arrive.”
Short recalled that flight attendants tracked the maggots to a passenger’s bag in the overhead compartment and found a fish wrapped in newspaper. After the man claimed the plane, flight attendants took it away and the pilot announced the flight would return to Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport, Short said.
In a statement to Fox 2, Delta apologized to the passengers: “Their journey was interrupted due to improperly packed carry-on luggage. The aircraft returned to the gate and the passengers were placed on the next available flight. The aircraft was stopped.” Service for cleaning.”
Another passenger named Kelce A since-deleted post on Twitter recounted the incident: “How nice to have an 8 hour @Delta flight to Amsterdam only to find rotten fish and maggots hitching a ride with us 2 hours later.”
The passenger said they and others on the plane allegedly received 8,000 free air miles, hotel room compensation and a $30 meal voucher to make up for the inconvenience.
