Ministry spokesman Ahmed Musa told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “There is full mobilization of the ministry’s personnel and the engineering, service and high-level effort to confront the weather conditions and rainfall, and to open maintenance, stations and warehouses 24 hours a day, and the exceptions governing hospitals, water projects and heavy water drainage, and we were We hope that these measures would have been in place years ago, and if they had been in place, we would not have gone through the crises that are occurring in the electricity sector,” noting that “the government is strongly moving to diversify energy sources through black oil, gas, wind, combined cycles, and solar energy, with the establishment of liquefied gas platforms in Al-Faw port in particular.”
Moussa added, “These steps come in parallel with the ongoing work of the Ministry to ensure that the fifth round of oil licensing is referred to the investment of associated gas, and the Ministry of Electricity today was keen to reduce dependence on fuel and gas and thus proceeded with the installation of combined cycles, and it can generate about four thousand megawatts, and its operation will not be approved.” On fuel only, but also on air and heat emitted from the simple cycle.”
He continued that the ministry “also worked to establish alternative energy projects and actually handed over plots of land to companies that aim to implement projects to generate 2,250 megawatts through solar energy. There is also work to generate electricity through wind in the Al-Shihabi area in Wasit Governorate, and there is a partnership with the Baghdad Municipality and the Investment Authority to establish stations that operate with waste.” Rounded, in addition to electrical interconnection projects with neighboring countries.”
He continued, “There is seriousness today to diversify energy sources and diversify gas sources. It is no secret to everyone that we went towards 3 countries, the first of which is Iran, from which gas is supplied, and then Turkmenistan, and we completed the agreement with it 100 percent to supply gas. We need to mature this agreement with the Iranian side, considering… The gas will pass through the pipelines connecting to Iraq from Iran, and we also continued to work with a third country, Qatar, and today we have understandings with the Qatari side in conjunction with the Prime Minister’s approval of the establishment of fixed liquefied gas platforms inside Al-Faw Port, and this platform will receive ships and ships loaded with liquefied gas from Various countries of the world, and we will not limit gas to one country.”
