The Director of the Veterinary Hospital in Dhi Qar Governorate, Muhammad Aziz, announced today, Thursday, a decrease in the rate of infections with hemorrhagic fever since the beginning of this year 2024 until now in the governorate compared to the past two years.
Aziz told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “Dhi Qar Governorate has recorded 27 cases of hemorrhagic fever since the beginning of this year 2024 until now, which is much better than last year 2023, in which the number of cases reached 80, while the number of cases in 2022 reached more than 100 cases.”
He added, “Hemorrhagic fever has spread throughout the governorate and caused the death of 4 people,” indicating that “the area with the highest number of infections is Al-Shatrah District.”
He explained that “the decrease in the infection rate in the governorate is due to the efforts of the Veterinary Department, in addition to the use of the substance (deltamitrin) to spray the pens and dip sheep and goats in this substance, to eliminate the transmitting medium that causes this disease, which is the tick insect.”
He pointed out that “41 awareness teams were formed in various areas of the governorate, to spread health awareness among segments of society, including butchers, livestock breeders, housewives and citizens in general, to reduce the incidence of the disease.”
