Baghdad – WAA
The Community Police Directorate of the Ministry of Interior revealed, on Thursday, the implementation of a new philosophy for dealing with crime and extortion cases.
Community Police Director Brigadier General Ali Ajami told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “The crime rate has decreased in Iraq by 40 percent,” explaining that “the significant decrease in crime came as a result of an extensive study and a strategic plan implemented by the Ministry of Interior under the direct supervision of Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari.”
He added, “The philosophy of community policing currently applied has become broader than before, as we have begun working to prevent crime before it occurs by communicating with citizens who have begun to report cases before they escalate, which has prevented many crimes and cases of extortion,” adding, “181 cases of electronic extortion have been dealt with, as a result of appeals and through the hotline (497) and by our detachments distributed throughout Iraq.”
He pointed out that “the community police implement the community peace strategy and are considered a safe haven for all citizens in Iraq,” noting that “the community police have a strategic center and regional forums through which negative phenomena are addressed according to solid scientific studies and contexts.”
