Brendan McManus was released from custody by Washington commanders on Sunday after being accused of sexually assaulting two women on a transatlantic flight.
“We take allegations of this nature very seriously,” commanders said in a statement.
The two women worked as flight attendants on a Jacksonville Jaguars flight to London last September. They allege in a civil lawsuit that McManus tried to kiss one of them and rubbed against them as they tried to carry out their job duties. They are seeking more than $1 million in damages, according to court documents. McManus was playing for the Jaguars, who were traveling to London for two regular-season games.

McManus’ attorney, Brett R Gallaway, denied the allegations against his client in a statement released late Sunday.
“We reiterate that the allegations against Brandon are and will continue to be categorically false and, importantly, are contradicted by the undisputed evidence and the plaintiff’s own prior inconsistent statements and omissions,” Gallaway said. “While we are disappointed with the team’s decision to release Brandon before he had an opportunity to defend these trumped-up charges, we will vigorously defend and clear Brandon’s name and reputation through the legal process. We intend to refute these charges, fully exonerated him and look forward to seeing him back where he belongs.
McManus, 32, signed with Washington in March after playing last season with Jacksonville for his 10th season in the NFL. Earlier this week, both the Commander and Jaguars said they were investigating the situation.
