Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd said the home of 25-year-old star Luka Doncic was burglarized Friday, the latest in a series of break-ins at professional athlete homes over the past few months.
“I contacted him, texted him,” Kidd said Saturday. “He’s doing well after that incident. I’m glad no one was hurt. I spoke to him today.
Doncic business manager Lara Beth Seager told multiple media outlets that no one was home at the time of the break-in and that the investigation into the incident is ongoing. Jewelry worth about $30,000 was taken from the home, according to The Dallas Morning News, which obtained an internal police report.
It’s unclear who broke into Doncic’s home.
At least six professional athletes’ homes have been burglarized since September, including Doncic’s. Minnesota Timberwolves guard Mike Conley’s home was broken into on September 15th.
On October 6, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ home in Missouri was burglarized. Mahomes called the incident “frustrating” and “disappointing.” Mahomes teammate Travis Kelce’s home was also broken into in October. On December 9, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow’s home in Ohio was broken into.
The NFL and NBA issued memos in November about the threat of burglary rings targeting the homes of professional athletes.
The NBA memo states that the FBI has identified “South American transnational theft rings” that “are reported to be well-organized and sophisticated gangs that employ advanced techniques and techniques, including pre-surveillance, drones and signal jamming devices.” .
On December 25, Doncic strained his left calf during the Mavericks’ game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. He is expected to be out for at least a month.
The Mavericks opened a four-game road trip with a win over the Phoenix Suns on Friday.
