Guest seats in Nick Ferrari’s LBC studio were bolted to the floor as Boris Johnson kept running away from camera during difficult interviews during his tenure as London mayor, the host has revealed.
Speaking to Radio Times, Ferrari said the chair was now securely fastened to a board on the studio floor so the interviewee could remain in the webcam’s view and avoid doing what LBC staff said was ” Boris Bolt”.
The former prime minister was frequently interviewed on Ferrari’s Ask Boris program when he was mayor of London between 2008 and 2016, often making headlines for his flippant comments.
The presenter said he would grunt and roll his chair out of the shot when challenged on a tough subject, which resulted in the chair being fixed in place.
“That’s Boris Bolt,” Ferrari said. “[When we were] When he was doing “Ask Boris”, he was still mayor. Someone asked him why he canceled the 63 bus, and he walked out of the camera. “
He added: “[Former commissioner of the Metropolitan police] Cressida Dick tried to move her chair while in the studio but was unable to do so. I told her on air why they were bolted and she said, “We do it in the interview room so our officers don’t get hit in the head with them.”
Ferrari, who has previously said he is a fan of Johnson and admitted to liking Keir Starmer, was asked if his show would be free for the government to watch.
“Not at all…it’s terrible right now, it’s embarrassing,” he said. “Let the voters have their say, but sweeping change wouldn’t be so bad because it would refresh everything. The party looked completely exhausted. Let’s be honest, the talent pit has been completely drained.
“[If Labour win the next election] It might mean I can be more aggressive and try to hit more sixes and fours rather than just doing laps. “
