Former US President Bill Clinton and his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, have announced their support for Kamala Harris’ candidacy following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the presidential race.
In a joint statement, Clinton and his wife praised Biden’s exceptional service and said they were honored to join him in endorsing Harris as the Democratic nominee, stressing that they would do everything in their power to support her.
“President Biden has capped his extraordinary career in office by leading America out of an unprecedented pandemic, creating millions of new jobs, rebuilding a battered economy, strengthening our democracy, and restoring our standing in the world by every measure,” they said in a statement.
“He furthered our founders’ mission to build a more perfect union and their stated goal of restoring the soul of our nation,” they added.
“We join millions of Americans in thanking President Biden for all he has accomplished, and standing up for America time and again,” they added.
“We are honored to join the President in endorsing Vice President Harris and will do everything we can to support her,” Bill and Hillary said in the statement.
They pointed out that the United States has gone through many ups and downs, but nothing has made us more concerned than the threat posed by a second term for Trump, who promised to become a dictator from day one, and the recent ruling issued by his Supreme Court will only encourage him to further tear up the Constitution.
They concluded the statement by saying: “Now is the time to support Kamala Harris and fight with everything we have to elect her. America’s future depends on it.”
US President Joe Biden officially announced on Sunday evening his withdrawal from the US presidential election race against former President Donald Trump, scheduled for November 5.
