Barcelona president Joan Laporta said his club is capable of buying Athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams, who is currently shining with Spain at Euro 2024, during the current summer transfer window.
“It is clear that we love Nico Williams very much… but we must let those who are responsible for the deals work,” Laporta said, according to Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo.
He added: “Deco is working on the signings that were discussed with Flick, and I hope we will get good news.”
He continued: “At the moment, yes, we have enough money to close the deal for Nico. This is the result of the work that has been done over the past years to reach this point. Now we can afford a deal of this level.”
He continued: “It has been a very intense 3 years, with a lot of things to do.. but the work has gone well.. the club’s economy is recovering, and we will have good news in this regard soon.”
“We are working to confirm the club’s economic recovery, and there are a series of operations that we have carried out, and we will be able to announce them soon. It is very comforting to be able to finish this task, which took us 3 years, and I hope that we will enter a period of stability,” Laporta added.
“Tebas (La Liga president) has made statements acknowledging the efforts made to reduce spending, and it is good that we can enter a state of stability with ‘Financial Fair Play’, because this helps to enter the market to make the signings we need to strengthen the first team,” he concluded.
