Here’s one of the funniest host clips from earlier in the night (followed by the inevitable tweet that makes them next year’s host):
Winner: Christopher Nolan (Oppenheimer) – Best Director

Benjamin Lee

Christopher Nolan was nominated for the sixth time and won for the first time, taking over the award from Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. It was a tough category, with Nolan beating out Greta Gerwig and Martin Scorsese.
He gave a thoughtful speech recalling the last time he took to the stage to accept an award following the death of Heath Ledger, calling it a “complicated and challenging” experience. Both then and now, he caught the attention of Robert Downey Jr., whom he thanks for his role in the industry and in movies.
From here, his path to his first Oscar for Best Director looks pretty simple…
Winner: The Boy and the Heron – animated film

Benjamin Lee

Hayao Miyazaki’s “final” film beats Spider-Man to score another major international victory.

Benjamin Lee
It was a much funnier night than anything the hosts had done, including this moment between Kevin Costner and Alica Ferrara:
Winner: Kieran Culkin (Succession) – Actor in a Television Series – Drama

Benjamin Lee

Unsurprisingly, it was a category dominated by inheritance, with Kieran Culkin beating Brian Cox and the more favored Jeremy Strong ). Culkin very uncomfortably told those who stood for a standing ovation to sit down, then apologized for the hiccups and delivered one of the most heartfelt speeches of the night.
Winner: Ayo Edebiri (Bear) – Actress in a Musical or Comedy Television Series

Benjamin Lee

Comedy “Bear” wins again, with Ayo Edebiri beating out the category’s other front-runners Quinta Brunson, Elle Fanning and Céline Selena Gomez.
“I’m an artist, and I’m lucky to be an artist,” Edbiri said nervously and excitedly in his speech. She received a round of applause when she thanked her agents and manager’s assistants for responding to her emails.
Winner: Anatomy of a Fall – Non-English Language Film

Benjamin Lee

The French thriller about a mysterious death, scored by 50 Cent, scores another major victory here, securing its place as a genuine Oscar contender.
Director Justin Treat paid tribute to the cast, which included Snoopy the puppy: “Thank you for being who you are: just a dog.”

Here’s our interview tonight with Golden Globe winner Justine Triet, who won Best Screenplay for Anatomy of an Autumn:
Winner: Ricky Gervais: The End of the World – Stand-up comedy show

Benjamin Lee

As one would hope for a brand new category, Jim Gaffigan gave a great stand-up introduction and elicited some awkward laughs with a Hollywood pedophile joke. “For 80 years, good-looking people have thrown parties, and you finally decide to invite talented people,” he added.
The first winner was Ricky Gervais, who beat out Chris Rock and Amy Schumer for his controversial special “Armageddon.” The former Golden Globes host was not in attendance to accept his award.
Winner: Jeremy Allen White (“Bear”) – Actor in a Musical or Comedy Television Series

Benjamin Lee

It’s always a shock to think of Bear being voted a comedy at the Golden Globes, but it’s less shocking to see its star take the stage for his second win on the critically acclaimed show . “I must have done something right in my life to be able to be with you,” he said in a tribute to the actors. This could be the first of several wins for the Bears.
Winner: Justine Triet (“Anatomy of a Fall”) – Best Screenplay

Benjamin Lee

It’s a bit of a shock that the French courtroom/family drama beat out “Barbie,” “Oppenheimer” and “Killers of the Flower Moon.” Victory signals a new, more international voting base and could mean more surprises to come.

Benjamin Lee
Well, it sounds like viewers don’t like Joe Coy either…
Wow. I have never seen an audience rebel so quickly against a host. A famous director cannot remain silent. “They all show up. They’re all here and this is what they’re giving us? This is a disaster.” #goldenglobe2024

Winner: Matthew Macfadyen (Succession) – Supporting Actor in a Television Series

Benjamin Lee

Hosts Keri Russell and Ray Romano deliver a surprisingly entertaining introduction (video of which will be shared here soon). who knows! The more predictable winner was someone from Succession, with Matthew Macfadyen beating out Alan Ruck and Alexander Skarsgård. Alexander Skarsgård), became the most deserving champion. McFayden began by saying how much he loved playing “Human Grease” and ended by saying how much he missed the production process. More succession victories are coming.
Winner: Elizabeth Debicki (“The Crown”) – Supporting Actress in a Television Series

Benjamin Lee

The Netflix night continues with Elizabeth Debicki beating out Meryl Streep and Christina Ricci to play Princess Diana in The Crown. Overwhelmed, Debicki had no one to thank, but it was nice to see a person speaking from his head rather than a piece of paper.

Benjamin Lee
Well, this is embarrassing!
Winner: Steven Yeun (Beef) – Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series or Television Movie

Benjamin Lee

Minari’s Yeun beat out Jon Hamm and David Oyelowo to earn her first Golden Globe nomination. It’s a good start for Netflix, a streaming company that has struggled in recent years when it comes to TV awards.
Winner: Ali Wong (Beef) – Actress in a Limited Series, Anthology Series or Television Movie

Benjamin Lee

Ali Wong was nominated and won for the first time for the hit Netflix series, which was an easy-to-predict winner in a then-not-so-popular category. Talk shows become divas. She’s the first Asian woman to be nominated in the category, let alone win. There may be more beef wins to come…

Joe Coy’s monologue wasn’t very popular…

I feel like no one was in charge of the Golden Globes, Joe Coy just walked in and said “I’m hosting” and no one bothered to check if that was correct
