Baghdad Operations Commander, Lieutenant General Walid Khalifa Al-Tamimi, announced today, Thursday, the development of a comprehensive security plan for the month of Muharram, while indicating the issuance of directives to organize service processions for visitors.
Al-Tamimi told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “A preliminary meeting was held at the Ministry of Interior, headed by the head of the Supreme Committee supervising the Arbaeen Pilgrimage, and several directives were issued with the aim of securing the Arbaeen Pilgrimage and ensuring protection for visitors with complete ease.”
He added that “the Baghdad Operations Command will provide protection for visitors on the occasion of the month of Muharram, which begins on the 1st of Muharram, corresponding to July 8. The plan will include securing all religious places where the Muharram rituals are held, as well as securing the visit of the 10th of Muharram. The command will secure the routes of visitors, whether on the 10th of Muharram or during the Arbaeen visit, controlling headquarters will be set up at the entrances to Baghdad to control and facilitate the movement of visitors from the provinces adjacent to Baghdad.”
He pointed out that “there is a complete plan that the Baghdad Operations Command will implement to secure the Arbaeen pilgrimage, and it includes all the security measures that contribute to securing the visitors and their routes,” noting that “directives were issued by the Baghdad Operations Command for the purpose of organizing service processions for visitors with the Processions Authority, and a coordination meeting will be held for the purpose of coordinating all service matters.”
