Baghdad Governor Abdul Muttalib Al-Alawi chaired the first expanded meeting of the Environmental Protection and Improvement Council today, Wednesday, while stressing the need to provide all capabilities to improve and protect the capital’s environment.
A statement by the governorate – received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) – said: “Baghdad Governor Abdul Muttalib Al-Alawi chaired the first expanded meeting of the Environmental Protection and Improvement Council.”
The statement added, “The meeting was attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment, Iktifa Al-Hasnawi, the Chairman of the Health and Environment Committee in the Baghdad Provincial Council, the Chairman of the Baghdad Investment Commission, the senior staff in the Baghdad Governorate, the directors of the Education and Health Directorates, and representatives of the Ministries of Oil, Interior, Water Resources, Industry, Agriculture, Higher Education, and the Customs Authority.”
He pointed out that “the meeting witnessed the discussion of several topics, most notably the pollution of the Bismayah residential complex, the Nahrawan brick factory, and the pollution of the Tigris River. The phenomenon of random islands and the green belt were also discussed, as well as working to stop the burning of waste around residential neighborhoods and encroachment on green spaces.”
Al-Alawi stressed – according to the statement – that “the governorate is working to provide all the capabilities needed by the municipal departments in order to provide the best services, especially in the field of improving and protecting the environment of the beloved capital, Baghdad.”
For her part, Al-Hasnawi expressed her “thanks to the Governor of Baghdad for his interest in protecting and improving the environment of the capital, Baghdad.”
