Baghdad Governor Abdul Muttalib Al-Alawi stressed, on Tuesday, the need to adhere to safety standards to prevent the recurrence of fire accidents from time to time, stressing the need to hold accountable those who violate Civil Defense instructions.
The governor said during his presence in the field in Al-Shorjah market to control a fire that broke out in wholesale shops in the Al-Rasafi area, via a statement by the Government Media and Communications Department, that “the civil defense teams succeeded in besieging the fire site in Al-Shorjah, controlling it, and combating any potential fire sources after great difficulty in reaching the scene of the accident due to the observed violations of non-compliance with professional requirements.”
He added, “The most important reasons for the outbreak of fires are due to the weakness and failure to adhere to the instructions and procedures of occupational safety, which are determined by the Civil Defense teams in coordination with the Baghdad Governorate.”
He pointed out that “many shops, facilities, establishments and warehouses were closed after not complying with safety requirements during the past period, which could lead to serious risks to lives and property.”
