The Husseini processions witness wide participation of children of different ages, some of whom provide services to visitors with various types of food and drinks, some of whom participate in the theatrical scenes that embody the painful Karbala incident, and others participate in the mourning processions.
The supervisor of the Freedom Procession, Ali Ramadan Al-Daraji, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “Our children grew up and were raised on the love of our Prophet Muhammad, his family and companions,” indicating that “the children expressed their solidarity with the heroism of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), by holding processions and participating in the Husseini rituals.”
The 6-year-old child, Muhammad al-Jawad Ahmad, who is participating in the procession of the al-Adl neighborhood, says: “My father is a servant of Imam al-Hussein (peace be upon him), and my mother vowed me to martyrdom, following the example of the infant Abdullah, the master of the children of Paradise and the most beautiful of its birds.”
The 8-year-old child, Laith Ahmed, explained, “We were raised on the love of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his pure family (PBUH), so we mourn in the months of Muharram and Safar. Our homes are open to women to hold mourning councils for the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and in our areas, Husseini processions are held to commemorate this painful tragedy that befell the family of the Prophet and the source of the message.”
