The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the Russian Federation, Haider Mansour Al-Athari, discussed at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs the possibility of increasing the number of scholarships granted to Iraq.
A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) stated that “the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the Russian Federation, Haider Mansour Al-Athari, visited today, Wednesday, the headquarters of the Russian Federal Service for the Affairs of the Commonwealth of Independent States, Citizens Residing Abroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation “Rossotrudnichestvo”, affiliated with the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and specializing in education affairs.”
He added, “During the visit, Al-Athari met with the head of the commission, former journalist and member of the Russian Duma, Yevgeny Viktorovich Primakov, in addition to the head of the education and science department in the commission, Vadim Zaichkov,” noting that “Ambassador Al-Athari discussed with Primakov the possibility of studying with the competent Russian authorities to allow the return of study invitations for Iraqi students wishing to study in Russian universities, which are currently suspended.”
Primakov promised, according to the statement, “to consider forming a tripartite committee from the authority and the Russian Ministry of Interior, in addition to the Russian Ministry of Education and Science to reconsider the decision.”
The statement continued, “The possibility of increasing the number of annual Russian scholarships granted to Iraq was also discussed.”
