Florence Pugh took a literal leap of faith while filming Thunderbolts*. When it came time to shoot the MCU’s latest installment, the Academy Award nominee practically had to beg the president of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, to allow her to perform a stunt that would see her jump off the second-tallest building in the world. “It was in the script, and then slowly as we got closer and closer to shooting, they were like, ‘Yeah, we don’t think it’s gonna happen, it’s just gonna be a crazy insurance ordeal, and obviously we’re not going to throw FP off the second-tallest…
Keep your popcorn to yourself. That was Jack Black‘s instruction to moviegoers attending a screening of A Minecraft Movie over the April 11-13 weekend at AMC Century City in L.A. following days of headlines about young moviegoers engaging in rowdy behavior and hurling handfuls of popcorn into the crowd when Black’s character exclaims, “chicken jockey!” As Black entered the auditorium unannounced, he initially disguised his voice when he intoning: “For today’s presentation of A Minecraft Movie, please no throwing popcorn.” When he began speaking in his own voice and was recognized, the crowd went nuts as he waved his main…
There’s no slowing down A Minecraft Movie, which hurtled past the $550 million mark at the global box office on its way to likely becoming the first title of 2025 to join the $1 billion club. The Warner Bros. family event pic easily stayed No. 1 in its second weekend with a huge domestic haul of $80.6 million. It has now earned $281 million in North America and $296.6 million overseas for a worldwide total of $550.6 million. The foreign tally includes $20.5 million from China, one of the best showings in recent memory for a Hollywood title (Legendary East…
The Breakfast Club stars Molly Ringwald, Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy and Anthony Michael Hall united publicly for the first time since the film’s 1985 release on Saturday, taking part in a 40th anniversary conversation at the C2E2 convention in Chicago. “I feel really very emotional and moved to have us all together,” Ringwald told the crowd, noting that while the rest of the group had previously reunited, it was the first time Estevez had joined them. “We don’t have to use the cardboard cutout anymore because he’s here. I feel really moved that we’re all together.” Estevez joked…
Ted Kotcheff, the unheralded Canadian moviemaker who moved gracefully among genres to direct such notable films as The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, First Blood and Weekend at Bernie’s, has died. He was 94. Kotcheff, who went on to spend 13 seasons as an executive producer on the gritty Dick Wolf series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, died Thursday, The Globe and Mail newspaper reported. The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz (1974), starring Richard Dreyfuss as a young hustler, is widely considered to be among the finest Canadian films ever made, and Kotcheff also directed a feature very high of the…
Anyone who watched the series premiere of 1923 in December 2022 knew right away that movie stardom was an inevitability for Brandon Sklenar. His war hero and big-game hunter character, Spencer Dutton, instantly made him a popular choice among fancasters to lead any number of action and superhero franchises (more on this later). The Taylor Sheridan-penned Western drama series also made a point to give the actor plenty of dramatic and romantic material, opening the door to a trio of films with thematic connections. Last year, Sklenar played Atlas Corrigan in the box office hit, It Ends with Us, and…
The star of early-’70s action pictures stopped by the ‘It Happened in Hollywood’ podcast to discuss movie history and the making of 1997’s ‘Jackie Brown.’
Robert Pattinson may give Timothée Chalamet a hard time in Legendary’s upcoming Dune: Messiah. Sources say the actor has been circling the role of the chief villain in the film, one that is possibly Scytale from Frank Herbert’s books. No offer has been made to Pattinson, whose call sheet includes starring in The Batman sequel for Matt Reeves, and appearing in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. Like Nolan, Dune filmmaker Denis Villeneuve is known for attracting the world’s top talent eager for a chance to work with the director. Dune and Dune: Part Two featured an all-star cast that included names…
Jenna Ortega is addressing why she exited the Scream franchise amid the firing of her co-star Melissa Barrera. In a cover story for The Cut published Monday, the Death of a Unicorn star reflected on leaving the rebooted Scream franchise, in which she and Barrera starred as the Carpenter sisters. After Spyglass Media Group announced in November 2023 that Barrera had been fired from the forthcoming seventh installment for remarks she made about the Israel-Hamas war on Instagram, it was also announced a day later that Ortega was departing the film as well. It was speculated her exit was due…
