The health ministry in the Hamas-run Gaza Strip said at least 92 people had been killed, more than half of them women and children, and 300 wounded in an Israeli strike on the Al-Mawasi camp. Hamas has withdrawn from talks working towards a ceasefire in the Gaza war, according to a senior official from the Palestinian militant group, who said the group’s political leader had told international mediators Qatar and Egypt working on a phased proposal since May that the group was halting negotiations over Israel’s “continued obstruction” as well as “ongoing massacres against unarmed civilians”. The talks’ collapse comes a day after an Israeli airstrike on a humanitarian “safe zone”, which Israel said targeted Hamas military leader Mohammed Deif, killed at least 92. The Israeli army said it targeted Hamas military leader Mohammed Deif and Rafa Salama, the commander of Hamas’ Khan Yunis Brigade, on Saturday in a strike on Gaza, after the Hamas-run territory’s health ministry said over 70 were killed in an Israeli attack on a displacement camp. “The civilians were in an area called Al-Mawasi, a humanitarian zone, they’ve been told to go there”, FRANCE 24’s Philip Turle said in an analysis. An Israeli air strike that hit the densely populated Al-Mawasi area previously designated as a humanitarian safe zone near the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis on Saturday killed at least 71 people and wounded nearly 300, according to health authorities in the Hamas-run Palestinian enclave. Israel said it targeted Hamas’ shadowy military commander in a massive strike in the southern Gaza Strip that killed at least 71 people, according to local health officials. The United Nations chief appealed for funding Friday for the beleaguered UN agency helping Palestinian refugees in Gaza and elsewhere in the Middle East, accusing Israel of issuing evacuation orders that force Palestinians “to move like human pinballs across a landscape of destruction and death.” UNRWA’s 30,000 staff provide education, primary health care and other development activities to about 6 million Palestinian refugees in Gaza, the West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria.
