Indonesia’s General Elections Commission (KPU) officially declared Prabowo Subianto the winner of February’s election, making the former general with ties to the Suharto dictatorship president-elect of the world’s third-largest democracy.  Subianto and running mate Gibran Rakabuming Raka, the son of popular outgoing President Joko Widodo, won 58.6% of the vote, according to the KPU. Opponents Anies Baswedan, a former governor of Jakarta, and former Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo, came in at 24.9% and 16.5%, respectively. A prominent Haitian gang leader who escaped prison earlier this month has been shot dead by police – as political groups appear to be getting closer to finalising a transition council in the country.Ernst Julme, known as Ti Greg, was the head of Delmas 95 which is part of Jimmy “Barbecue” Cherizier’s alliance of gangs. Several countries condemned on Thursday Venezuela’s arrest of two top aides of opposition leader Maria Corina Machado.  Authorities on Wednesday arrested Henry Alviarez and Dignora Hernandez, the latest in a series of detentions targeting politicians, journalists and rights activists. Former football star Robinho has been arrested in Brazil, more than 10 years after he was first accused of raping a woman in Italy. The former Manchester City player will start his nine-year prison term after a court decision this week authorised the transfer of the sentence from Italy. The European Union’s highest court upheld a previous decision to have two fingerprints on identity cards after it was challenged at a German court. The European Court of Justice (ECJ)  said the 2019 regulation was in line with fundamental rights to respect for private life and the protection of personal data.  But the underlying legal basis for the 2019 regulation, which is directly applicable in all member states, was faulty, the court said.
