Germany is grappling with a critical labor shortage and aging population, with projections indicating a deficit of 7 million skilled workers by 2035. With some 700,000 vacancies currently unfilled, the country’s economic growth potential has dropped to about 0.7% now from around 2% in the 1980s. Iran is “weeks rather than months” away from having enough enriched uranium to develop a nuclear bomb, Rafael Mariano Grossi, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), told DW. “But that does not mean that Iran has or would have a nuclear weapon in that space of time,” he added. A beloved ostrich has died after swallowing a zoo worker’s keys.Staff at Topeka Zoo and Conservation Center in the US said they were “devastated by the loss” of the five-year-old bird named Karen. She had reached over a fence to snatch and swallow the staff member’s set of keys, the zoo said.Staff consulted with experts around the US “to undergo surgical and non-surgical efforts” in a bid to save the ostrich but had no success.Karen was euthanised on Thursday and “passed away in staff’s hands”, said Fawn Moser, the zoo’s interim director. Indian manufacturer Everest Food Products said on Tuesday its spices were safe for consumption after Singapore and Hong Kong flagged allegedly high levels of a cancer-causing pesticide in a product.  Singapore advised people against using the spice mix for fish curries earlier this month. It came after Hong Kong also suspended the sale of the Everest spice mix for fish curries, along with three other products by a similarly popular Indian brand called MDH.
