A Boeing 777 aircraft, intended to reach Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, turned around and landed back in Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport shortly after takeoff on Sunday, reporting an unspecified technical issue. Flight KLM705, operated by Dutch airline KLM, landed safely. A spokesperson for Dutch air traffic control said the plane requested to land as a precaution and turned around over Belgium some 40 minutes after takeoff. The nature of the technical problem was undisclosed. Twenty bodies were found following a fire at a lithium battery manufacturing plant in South Korea, officials and local media said on Monday. The fire erupted at 10:30 a.m. (0130 GMT) at an Aricell factory in Hwaseong, south of the capital Seoul, following a series of battery cell explosions in a warehouse. A hiker who lost more than 13kg after disappearing in California’s woods had to have rocks removed from his back. Pictures have emerged of the moment a shirtless Lukas McClish, 34, was reunited with his family after being lost for 10 days in Big Basin Redwood State Park. A study has found a major earthquake 2,500 years ago caused one of the largest rivers on Earth to suddenly change course. The high-magnitude earthquake completely rerouted the main channel of the river Ganges in what is now densely populated Bangladesh, and completely changed the surrounding landscape. While it is “normal for river channels to move with time, this was an absolutely extreme event.
